6.1. Editing and Name

The editing process was quite long. We were editing even before we finished shooting, so for about 10 days to two weeks. I think a problem we had is that we overlooked the importance of editing in the first couple versions of the film. We took editing as putting all the clips together instead of a major step in building up the movie. What we ended up with because of that was a very boring, passive video that did not fit the character of the music at all. It wasn't until the last week or 5 days that we sort of went further with it. For example, at the beginning we would use just clips that were good on its whole whereas, on the final edit , we pretty much cut and mixed all the clips. We put good bits of overall bad clips and we purposely deleted and cut good bits of the good clips. That mixing of good, bad, short clips etc. made the movie a lot better. Because I left London before the 9th, we had to edit remotely, which was fine. Rebant an Sophie would meet to edit, send it over, I would do my part and vice versa.

The last step was deciding the title. We thought about naming it like the first script I wrote: DIRTY BLOOD. However, I thought that name has no correlation with this movie anymore. There is barely no blood on this film and the key point had nothing to do with blood. So Rebant came up with the name Brotherly Love. I liked it a lot actually! It can be literal, cause you don't know the relation these two people have but it could also be quite ironic since they are fighting. It is a bit ambiguous but could also be taken literally. We also try several fonts. I think at first we overly complicated it. We chose a font that had layers and that sort of appeared on top of a shot and then black. However, Vicki recommended to simplified it a bit. And in all honesty, it looked a lot better after we changed it. The final decision was just a white centered title over black. With the credits we did use a different font made on Photoshop. I think we really paid a lot of attention to the details, and again, that was a personal goal of mine, so I am very satisfied.
